A paradise for cross-country skiers and ice racing

St. Moritz unfolds a unique kind of magic, which comes to life in winter through its snow-covered landscapes, frozen lakes, and the vibrant streets of the city centre, dotted with exclusive boutiques and trendsetting venues. It also shines through its iconic events and festivals, drawing thousands of visitors from all over the world.

It is said that Alpine winter tourism was born right here in St. Moritz, back in 1864, with the arrival of the first travellers enchanted by the mountains even in the cold season. It was also here that two editions of the Winter Olympic Games took place, in 1928 and 1948, establishing St. Moritz as a top destination for winter sports.

Cross-country skiing

Queen of the Upper Engadin, this area of Switzerland is the undisputed paradise for cross-country skiing. Thanks to the Engadin Skimarathon, which stretches for about 42 km from Maloja to S-chanf, passing through St. Moritz, it attracts around 13,000 enthusiasts from all over the world every year. Some prefer to follow the Direttissima, crossing the three lakes, while others are more ambitious and train along the official Marathon route.

St. Moritz boasts a vast ski area, home to some of the most renowned slopes in the Alps: Corviglia, stretching over 155 km with 24 ski lifts; Corvatsch, ideal for both skiers and snowboarders, who here can find a dedicated Funpark; and Diavolezza, better suited for experienced skiers, but capable of offering a truly unique natural spectacle. St. Moritz also hosts the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, a women-only event where athletes compete in the Super-G and parallel slalom, challenging each other along the mountain’s adrenaline-filled curves.

Bob skating and Snowshoeing

St. Moritz is home to the world's only Olympic bobsleigh track made entirely of natural ice – and the oldest still in operation. Bob races, skeleton championships, and toboggan runs on the historic Cresta Run are just some of the thrilling ice-based activities that bring colour to the winter season in Upper Engadin. You can also explore the snowy landscape with snowshoe hikes and winter trekking, or enjoy the magic of night skiing on the illuminated slopes of Corvatsch with Snow Night Skiing.
